Taiyo’s blind audition at The Voice Kids France

Biography

Taiyo, a young street artist with over 500k followers on Instagram, captivates audiences with his unique cultural background and exceptional musical abilities. Born in 2010 in Sydney, Australia, Taiyo is the result of a cultural blend between a Japanese mother and a French father. In addition to mastering English, French, and Japanese, he is passionate about surfing.

His passion for music emerged at the age of one with pots and pans. He then explored the djembe, and at the age of 5, he embarked on learning the didgeridoo, carving it in the traditional way with the help of an Aboriginee in the Queensland bush.

At the age of 6, Taiyo decided to share his music by regularly performing on the streets, with the aim of "bringing happiness to people." At 9 years old, he received a piano as a gift, and only six months later, he started playing it publicly on the streets, showcasing his vocal talents as well.

Since his parents are not musicians, Taiyo had to learn everything by himself using tutorials on YouTube, while also receiving guidance from his mentor, Jessica Roemischer. Taiyo doesn't enjoy learning in a traditional manner, so he didn't learn to read sheet music.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, he decided to record some of the songs he had written in a studio, and he loved the experience. He managed to raise AUD 3,000 on Kickstarter to fund this project. He now regularly posts his own music on platforms like YouTube Music and Spotify.

In 2022, Taiyo finally got to reconnect with his audience on the streets and took the opportunity to test his latest song, titled "Horizon." In June of that year, he won the Best Singer/Songwriter award at the Sydney Eisteddfod, and in August, he received an EdStart scholarship to record his music.

In August 2022, a surprise came into Taiyo's life when he received a message on his Instagram account from the team of "The Voice Kids France” just three days before the auditions closed! During his blind audition, all 4 coaches turned their chairs and Taiyo had so much fun going all the way to the semis.

From October 2022 to January 2023, between show recordings, Taiyo took the opportunity to travel around Europe in a camper van with his family, performing on the streets in cities like Amsterdam, Barcelona, or Montpellier leading him to write Missing Home.

Upon returning to Australia, Taiyo resumed his performances at his favourite spots in Sydney, such as the Corso in Manly and Circular Quay facing the Opera House! At the beginning of 2024 his goal was to buy the piano of his dreams, a Roland LX708 (AU$6,000!). After weeks of busking and the help of his generous followers on Instagram he now loves playing that piano.
